English 1102 4th Blog

2/25/2012

Using blogs to write my thoughts and ideas has definitely helped my writing. In English 1101, my writing ability improved because I started to write multiple drafts, and in English 1102, I can honestly say that blogging about my writing has helped me take my writing and research ability to the next level. I thought blogging was very helpful because I got to see how everyone else was doing on their research, and also, I got to express my thoughts and ideas. Writing my thoughts helped me see how I was progressing throughout the research process and made my writing process easy, clear, and efficient. While I was writing my third blog, I began to doubt whether my research topic was a good idea because my inquiry question did not make much sense. If I had not blogged about my inquiry question, I would have not noticed that it needed fixing. Overall, I have learned that I write well using blogger. I am a very organized writer, and blogging has made organizing my thoughts and ideas easier. What is even more fascinating about blogging is that anyone around the world can read what you have written. It is a great way, not only for school but for life in general, to get what is on your mind out there so that other people can respond to your opinion.

English 1102 3rd Blog

2/18/2012

Since my research topic is about radiation, I will have a broad audience because any person is vulnerable to be affected by radiation. Everyone needs to be aware of the effects that radition can cause from the things we use in our daily life. People are being affected from radiation higher than ever in human history, so we need to know what we are exposing to our body. The research I am doing for this topic is highly important for us to understand. When I was in high school, my teachers, especially my English teachers, wanted me to write my essay in a way that revolves around one theme. However, now that I am in college, it is a lot harder to do so, because as I expose myself to different things, I learn that things are a lot more complex than just sticking to one point of the argument. There is always two side to a story, and the audience needs to know both points and make his/her own decision.

2) Currently, I have been able to see two contrasting viewpoints. One of them is the fact that high-tech materials come with a price, and it is up people to make their own decision. The otherside to the argument is that these companies need to do a better job getting the information out there.

3) One interesting thing I have learned this week is that we actually expose ourselfs to radiation when we exercise, but it does not affect us, because we do not produce enough for it to be a threat to our body. Researching is not something you do the day before the assignment is due, it is a job that requires time and interest.

4) I commented on Tim Tran's Blog.

English 1102 2nd Blog

 2/12/2012

For my research, the most interesting source I have found is a journal article called "Radiation Protection in Pediatric Imaging." The author of this article is Bryant Furlow. This is interesting because it talks about the effects radiation has on kids. It mentions how more and more American kids are being exposed to radiation. It talks about how being exposed as a child can have a negative effect as you grow up. On top of all of this, children are the very vulnerable not only to radiation but to any harmful effects, so it talked about how important it is to be aware of the things we expose our kids to. My topic has not really changed much. The more I research, the more interesting examples I find that I can use for my research. I am very open for suggestions on narrowing my topic down, but I find it reasonable to keep my original question. One challenge I have faced is finding factual sources that are not made up by a random person on the internet, and therefore my suggestion to my peers is not to use the first thing you find on the internet as a source.

For this assignment, I plan on researching about the effects of radiation from electronics on the human body. Since technology has played a vital role in our daily lives, it is essential to know the effects it may have. Through my research, I am hoping to discover what extensive negative effects radiation may have on the body. I haven't done any preliminary research, but based upon a recent documentary that was aired on television, I have concluded that even small devices in which we tend to overlook, can provide radiation that is extremely negative for the human body. I feel that people should be informed about these effects so they may be able to make conscientious choices in their everyday lives.
